This talk begins by a brief overview of a typical project lifecycle, starting with the quick hacks that eventually lead to impenetrable and inscrutable Perl programs that become a maintenance nightmare. Common behaviors in un-maintainable Perl programs will be discussed, along with ways to avoid these counter-productive techniques. Ideas for remediation of bad Perl code is discussed, as well as guidelines for keeping your Perl programs from reaching an un-maintainable state.
