Session
Writing Apache 2.0 Modules
Dirk-Willem van Gulik, Joost
Track: Apache Web Server
Date: Thursday, July 25
Time: 2:30pm - 3:15pm
Location: Sea Breeze I
Apache 2.0 is becoming reality. The Apache group is getting nearer and nearer to a full-blown release - and the first commercial products based on the 2.0 codebase are early on the market. Three things stand out when compared to Apache 1.3 - and all three have a profound effect on the developer: Threading, Filters and the APR portability layer.
After this talk you will be able to write simple modules which exploit all the coolness of apache 2.0, port any existing 1.3 modules and leave you with an understanding of when to use modules, when to punt to a full blown application environment such as for example (mod)perl, java or php. Welcome to the party!
