OMG's Model Driven Architecture defines a new paradigm for computing - building platform-independent abstract models and generating platform-specific software based on them. NetBeans incorporates a metadata repository, which is implements OMG's standards for metadata management and model driven architecture. The metadata repository can be used by developers in NetBeans, or as a standalone library in other Java applications. It also makes it easy to build support for new languages into the NetBeans IDE.
