Jabber is a set of XML-based protocols for real-time messaging and presence notification. The first application of the Jabber protocols is an instant messaging (IM) system similar to AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ, MSN Instant Messenger, or Yahoo! Messenger. A great deal of software has been written in compliance with the Jabber protocols, including several servers and a wide variety of IM clients for just about every platform.
