Session
Making Distributed Collaborative Development Work
Lara Fabans, Lodestone Software, Inc
Track: Emerging Topics
Date: Wednesday, July 09
Time: 1:45pm - 2:30pm
Location: Salon I
More and more, people want to work from remote sites so that their place of business doesn't have to dictate their lifestyle. XP and Agile programming have taken the development work by storm, and have produced excellent results; however, it requires working in close proximity. This session will examine new ways of thinking about the development process, and ways in which people working remotely can still feel connected as a team through collaboration devices and simple communication tricks. We will discuss the optimal size of a group, the role of the project manager, and what kind of deliverables can be expected in a realistic amount of time. We'll discuss how pairing up works, and how having other pairs test, code, and review the work can reduce development time.
