Scalable Vector Graphics, an XML-based graphics language developed within the W3C, provides a standards-based platform changing the game in the way we deal with graphics in web pages, enterprise graphics and rich client applications. This tutorial will spend an introductory hour on the fundamentals of the language. Once the underlying concepts are introduced, we will move forward to use cases highlighting different SVG programming paradigms and techniques illustrated by sample applications such as an interactive web page, an online cartography application and some GUI widgets. Attendees will leave the session with a solid understanding of what the SVG platform offers in terms of graphics capabilities, interactivity and XML integration all in the context of real-world applications. XML and basic graphics knowledge is a plus for attendees.
