Dave Thomas, The Pragmatic Programmers, LLC
Track: Ruby
Date: Thursday, July 10
Time: 5:15pm - 6:00pm
Location: Eugene
In this session, Thomas describes his summer project: "I had just over a month to rewrite a small regional web application into something that would support 50,000 users around the world. I had to handle order entry, registration for competitions, multiple levels of administration, accounting functions, and some of the most arcane business rules you could imagine.
"Fortunately, I had Ruby. Unfortunately I made lots of mistakes along the way. Fortunately (again) I had Ruby, so I could fix them. In the end, we rolled out about 25kloc, and re-engineered the business processes of a global non-profit along the way. Come along and share in the pain and successes as I open up my project diary and describe how Ruby saved my butt."
