SCO's lawsuit against IBM alleging IP problems in the kernel named Linux have far-reaching implications for Open Source and Free Software, regardless of how this particular case turns out. Patents and copyrighted code are a problem that all open source and Free Software projects should face, but haven't. We'll look at the issues surrounding the SCO suit and discuss what open source/Free Software developers and consumers can do about IP threats.
