In the last year, we've seen consumer grade wireless equipment
prices fall
dramatically as more and more manufacturers integrate wireless into
their
own products. Articles about various aspects of wireless networking
have
made international news, including strange tales of WarChalking
shenanigans
and War Driving, Pringles can-wielding Secret Service agents. Wireless is
now practically everywhere, having found its way into coffee
houses, parks,
schools, offices, and many people's homes.
Community Wireless networkers around the planet are building their vision of
the new Internet age: a ubiquitous, high bandwidth network as freely available
as the air we breathe.
Rob Flickenger will explore the current state of Community Wireless Networks,
including the ideologies, do-it-yourself hardware, and of course, Open Source
software that are building the wireless utopia.
