This tutorial will begin with an overview of the problem of web-based single sign-on and attribute exchange across domains. We will then continue with a discussion of the SAML protocol specifically, and how it aims to solve these many of these problems. Then we will develop, from scratch, a Java Servlet-based SAML implementation using Apache tools such as Tomcat, XMLBeans, and XML-Security. Attendees will leave with a more complete understanding of the technologies used, and how to apply them to their own problem domains.
