A Truly Simple API for XML
Sterling Hughes, Freelance Software Developer

Track: XML
Date: Thursday, July 29
Time: 4:30pm - 5:15pm
Location: Eugene

With the release of PHP version 5, PHP has completely revamped XML support based on the libxml2 library. At its core, PHP 5 includes two new extensions, the DOM extension and the SimpleXML extension. SimpleXML is a PHP interface to XML documents that allows you to treat an XML document as a native data structure. In this talk, the author of the SimpleXML extension will go into the design decisions behind SimpleXML, and take the audience deep into the issues inherent to writing applications that process XML documents, including proper namespace support, handling mixed text and element nodes, and designing documents that can be processed in a uniform manner.
