Starting with a summary of the state of the art in technology for using Windows programs on Linux, this talk proceeds to an in depth examination of the Wine project. This examination will include:

  • An explanation of what Wine is
  • A broad overview of Wine's technical underpinnings
  • A brief history of Wine, particularly recent developments
  • An in depth considerations of the practical uses of Wine
  • An in depth consideration of the limitationso of Wine
  • A roadmap for the future development of Wine

    The talk will include demonstrations and leave a fairly substantial chunk of time for questions and answers.
