Session
Introduction to mod_rewrite
Rich Bowen, Web Database Programmer, Apache Software Foundation
Track: Apache
Date: Thursday, August 4th, 2005
Time: 1:45pm - 2:30pm
Location: D135
mod_rewrite is the swiss army knife of URL mapping, providing arbitrarily complex URL-to-resource mapping, rewriting, and redirecting, using the PCRE regular expression library. mod_rewrite is perhaps the most powerful module in the Apache Web Server toolbox, but it is also one of the least understood, with most applications of it being of the "magic incantation" variety, rather than demonstrating actual understanding of what's going on.
This session lays the groundwork for understanding what mod_rewrite really does, and what the syntax really means. In this way, using it won't seem like such a random poking about in the dark, and will be more of the instrument of surgical precision that it should be.
