Session
Zope 3 and the Semantic Web
Michel Pelletier, CIGNEX Technologies
Track: Python
Date: Friday, August 5th, 2005
Time: 10:45am - 11:30am
Location: D135
Zope 3 is the next generation Zope web application platform. 2005 will be the "Year of Zope 3" in the Zope community, as more and more Zope 2 applications move over to the much more advanced and component oriented Zope 3 architecture.
The Semantic Web is the next generation suite of tools and standards to improve the way systems communicate and search each other's data using a standard XML format for interchanging data and meta-data about web resources.
Zemantic is an open source semantic web search engine for Python and Zope 3. Based on rdflib, Zemantic tries to improve on the existing Zope search concepts by extending them to include semantic web concepts and standards.
Pelletier's talk gives a brief and easy introduction to Zope 3, the semantic web, and the Zemantic search engine. It gives several real-world examples of using semantic web technology to create rich and powerful search queries that can also be used from any other tools or languages that support semantic web data formats.
