Session
Terabytes of Business Intelligence: Design and Administration of Very Large Data Warehouses on PostgreSQL
Josh Berkus, PostgreSQL Lead, Sun Microsystems
Joseph Conway
Track: Databases
Date: Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005
Time: 11:35am - 12:20pm
Location: D136
Anyone can run a 100MB database on PostgreSQL with a simple
download-and-install. But it takes experience, many hours of configuration
and testing, and not a few tricks to make a terabyte of data perform well
enough for company executives.
Joe Conway and Josh Berkus will present two case studies which show some of
the capabilities and issues around running large databases on PostgreSQL.
Conway built a 1.1 terabyte manufacturing data analysis system for Cymer,
Inc. Berkus recently completed a 500GB high-availability clickstream
analysis system, working for GreenPlum Inc. and the Bizgres project on the
website of a major content provider. Attendees will also get a preview of
large database features planned for upcoming releases of PostgreSQL and
Bizgres.
