Embedded Interface Testing with Python: PyUnit and PySerial
Kees Cook, Ubuntu Software Engineer, Canonical Ltd.
Track: Python
Date: Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005
Time: 11:35am - 12:20pm
Location: E142
Embedded devices are used in places where it can sometimes be difficult or
impossible to update the software they run. As a result, interface and functionality testing is critically important. Since embedded systems may be attached to different host platforms, having a portable testing system is also desirable. This talk details how PyUnit and PySerial were used to create a test system for an embedded touch-screen device.
Specific session topics include:
- Testing requirements
- Portability: different host platforms
- Flexibility: fast test prototyping
- Serial Communication
- PySerial
- Functional definitions
- Python module
- Unit testing
- PyUnit
- Input validation
- Functional testing
- Test suites
