Session
Hacking Your Home Phone System
Brian Aker, Director of Architecture, MySQL AB
Track: Emerging Topics
Date: Friday, August 5th, 2005
Time: 11:35am - 12:20pm
Location: E141
Telephony systems have long been the domain of the corporate environment. Cheap VOIP hardware and Asterisk are leading to a commoditization of the market place.
This is talk is about the adventure Aker went through making use of Asterisk and cheap telephony hardware for the last year. How asterisk works and how you can hack it will be discussed. Aker will also provide you with knowledge of the basic hardware and what you need to buy to make it work in your own house (on a shoestring budget, no less).
Examples will be shown on how to set up dialing plans, peer with providers, create white lists for incoming numbers, music on hold, room to room calling, and wake up call systems (just in case you feel more at home at hotels then your own home).
