Session
Building PHP Applications with Berkeley DBXM
George Schlossnagle, VP of Engineering, OmniTI Computer Consulting, Inc.
Track: PHP
Date: Thursday, August 4th, 2005
Time: 11:35am - 12:20pm
Location: E141
Sleepycat Software's Berkeley DBXML is a embedded native XML database system. DBXML stores data in collections and supports fully transactional access to both individual documents and collections via XQuery 1.0. Because DBXML provides native indexing, it completely avoids the overhead of converting XML documents for storage in a more traditional RDBMS. This makes DBXML the fastest and most flexible backing store for XML available today.
In this talk, we'll discuss the architecture of DBXML and how to access it through PHP using the php_dbxml extension. We'll explore how using DBXML differs from the other XML facilities in PHP 4 and 5. We'll cover the XQuery language for querying XML documents. We'll also go over some sample applications that benefit from being written around DBXML.
