Session
Open Source Governance: Strategies for Controlling Open Source Adoption
Kasper van Beem, Global Service Line Open Source Leader, Capgemini
Track: Open Source Business Review
Date: Thursday, August 4th, 2005
Time: 11:35am - 12:20pm
Location: E145
The adoption of commercial software can be controlled in a straightforward manner through the purchasing process. Open source adoption is far more difficult to manage because there is no single gateway to control how and when open source software is used. This presentation covers the requirements for a mature open source governance process from all the angles that are relevant to IT organizations large and small.
Issues that will be discussed include: governance structure, enforcing compliance, as well as how to create successful policies for using open source, releasing software as open source, and participating on open source projects. The differences between how these processes work based on the size of the organization will be examined.
