The ideal nirvana of "generating an application on the push of a button", is yet to be realized. We have gone through cyclical architectural transformations like main frames, workstations, client server, n-tier, and Service Oriented Architectures. Different language runtimes and technologies have attempted to materialize this vision. At the same time, the programmers’ productivity has not improved. This presentation discusses the issues and challenges still faced by a programmer with respect to ease of use, faster implementation, seamless migration, functional and architectural extensibility, scalability, interoperability and reusability. The importance of samples, demos, coding practices, patterns, export import characteristics, and templated configurations will be discussed. In addition, we will also present our thoughts on a new concept called "Application Service Modules" with simple examples.
