BOF
Clusters and Beyond with Warewulf
Track: BOF
Date: Monday, August 1st, 2005
Time: 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Location: E143-144
Moderated by John Fricker
Warewulf was designed by Greg Kurtzer for the Lawrence Berkeley National Labratory HPC cluster yet it has tremendous application outside of HPC. Warewulf provides simple centralized system image management, helping to prevent entropy from ruining a perfectly good server farm.
In a web environment, Warewulf provides an image management system for network booting nodes. AMD is running 100 node web farm, and Musician's Friend is gearing up to deploy a few dozen more nodes in production.
This session will be an introduction to Warewulf, thin servers, PXE booting, blade centers, centralized server management and farm entropy.
