Session
Maturity of Open Source Affinity Groups - Identifying Related Open Source Components for Stable Runtime
Murugan Pal, Founder & CTO, SpikeSource
Track: Open Source Business Review
Date: Thursday, August 4th, 2005
Time: 1:45pm - 2:30pm
Location: E145
Typically, when an IT organization decides to adopt an open source solution, it is not one component that needs to be evaluated, installed, configured, deployed, and integrated. It is usually a collection of many open source components that need to interact with each other to provide a complete solution either as pure open source stack or with hybrid commercial environments.
There are certain affinity groups that pertain to tools, standards, methodologies, and technologies. Solutions built for LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and php) stack are good examples. There are certain aspects of these components make these combinations work well together, while others have not, including determining the business readiness.
This session will introduce an assessment model for evaluating components that can be used to determine business ready affinity groups that work well for a specific usage context. The model can measure essential testing and runtime management requirements.
