Session
Extending Nagios for Enterprise IT Monitoring
Thomas Stocking, CTO, GroundWork
Track: Products & Services
Date: Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005
Time: 1:45pm - 2:30pm
Location: D139-140
As Nagios moves beyond its established role in small and medium-sized
networks, some limitations in its architecture have been exposed. One
approach to extending Nagios involves integration with various open
source software into a comprehensive enterprise solution. This reflects
a new trend in open source development--the shift from single products
to enhanced, composite applications. GroundWork engineers started with
a base of Nagios and integrated open source components into one
certified and supported application "stack" that aimed to address
enterprise customers' need for a more "finished" IT monitoring product.
What were some of the challenges and benefits of this approach?
