Session
JavaScript Archive Network: Infrastructure for Scalable JavaScript Development
Casey West, Software Developer, pair Networks
Track: Java
Date: Thursday, August 4th, 2005
Time: 11:35am - 12:20pm
Location: Portland 251
"JavaScript is just a Scripting Language meant for scrolling status bars, color tricks, and pictures that follow your cursor. You don't write applications in JavaScript, that's for sure." That's what they want you to believe.
A now popular programming language, Perl, used to have a similar problem. Ten years ago some enlightened Perl developers created CPAN, a Comprehensive Perl Archive Network, to catalog and distribute Open source, modular Perl code for everyone to use. Today CPAN is Perl's greatest asset referred to as "my programming language of choice" by most Perl Hackers.
Now in the world full of AJAX style client-oriented web applications, JavaScript plays a crucial role. This little and dynamic language must dance with server side applications and serve the most important position, the client facing interface. JavaScript, however, has no support on its own, no community, no infrastructure. That's where the JavaScript Archive Network (JSAN) comes into play.
In this talk you will learn about the JSAN architecture, and how to build modular and scalable JavaScript applications.
