Immediately prior to joining Black Duck, Karen was a partner in the Patent and Intellectual Property Group of Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault LLP practicing in the area of technology licensing. Karen began her legal career at IBM in New York and held various counsel positions in marketing and development locations, including serving for ten years as site counsel for the semiconductor development labs and manufacturing facilities in Burlington, Vermont. In 1992 she joined Brown & Bain PA working with technology clients in their offices in Phoenix, Arizona, and Silicon Valley.
She has served as an adjunct professor at Suffolk Law School in the field of Computer Law, lectured at Suffolk's Advanced Legal Series conferences on copyright law and sophisticated licensing issues, served as chair for the Practicing Law Institutes annual conference on Structuring, Negotiating and Implementing Strategic Alliances, and is a frequent speaker at conferences devoted to issues relating to open source licensing.
Karen is a graduate of Dickinson School of Law (JD, 1979), is admitted to practice in New York, Vermont, California and Massachusetts.
