In this talk, we will discuss the migration of a heavily used multiterabyte, mission-critical operational datastore (datawarehouse) from Oracle 8i to PostgreSQL 8.1.
We will discuss the various obstacles encountered during the migration and how they were eliminated or overcome. The Postgre alternatives to some advanced Oracle features like data partitioning, materialized views, cross-database snapshotting, and ad-hoc replication from other online transaction processing (OLTP) instances will be engaged.
