A lot is being written about Service-oriented Architectures and the benefit they can bring to organizations that need to integrate loosely coupled applications. However, lost in the chatter is discussion on how these design concepts impact everyday programming tasks and the people actually developing the code.

The Apache Tuscany project was founded to implement the Service Component Architecture specification and provide a simple programming model for developing these applications. This talk shows how Tuscany allows application components to be written in various languages (including PHP, Java, and C++) without requiring the programmer to interface with complex infrastructure code, and then how those components can be combined to form the large-scale loosely coupled applications today's users demand.
