There is a perception that open source software has failed to provide an acceptable set of digital media solutions. Linux is said to be lacking in this area, and thus unsuited for the digital age. Come along, join in as we uncover the issues, potential solutions, and openly discuss OSS strategies to meet the challenge with a measured response. The barriers we will address includes DRM (digital restrictions management), software patents, and licensing controls on the one hand; and public claims that the OSS community refuses to comply with IPR laws on the other. Do OSS developers really refuse to obey the law? What will become of digital media in the next 10-20 years?
