This tutorial teaches participants how different Linux subsystems work and maps how to monitor each aspect of that subsystem in standard performance monitoring commands. The tutorial breaks performance down by subsystem: CPU, Memory, IO, and Network. It explains how to discover performance anomalies by correlating statistics from these different subsystems. The tutorial presents case studies and student-guided lab exercises to provide practical application methodology of concepts learned in the course.
After completing this tutorial, participants will be able to effectively monitor Linux systems using standard tools. The skills learned in this course will enable a system administrator to identify bottlenecks, apply kernel tuning parameters, and manage capacity planning/SLA requirements.
