Kitchen Sink Language

Peter von der Ahé, javac Tech Lead, Sun Microsystems

Track: Java
Date: Thursday, July 26
Time: 2:35pm - 3:20pm
Location: F151

Before adding any new language features to the Java programming language, we should experiment and try out lots of ideas. Now that the compiler, javac, has been open sourced it is easy to do so. Sun has setup a site to act as a hub for language experiments: the Kitchen Sink Language.

This talk will touch on:

  • what makes a good language feature
  • architecture of the compiler
  • other uses of compiler technology
  • community experiences
