Jingle is a recent extension to the XMPP (Jabber) protocol that is nearing official standardization. It provides voice, video and other rich media features and is the protocol behind Google's voice chat service. Jingle's existence is interesting for two reasons: it makes XMPP interoperable with existing VoIP technologies and it has compelling advantages over competing standards like SIP, such as the native ability to tunnel through firewalls.
Find out what the buzz is about and explore open source implementations of Jingle. We'll look at details of the protocol, and what it takes to add implementations to clients and servers. We'll also cover a novel way to use Jingle to provide VoIP in web pages.
