Hack the Real World with Open Source and Microcontrollers

Brian Jepson, Editor, O'Reilly Media, Inc.

Track: Emerging Topics
Date: Friday, July 27
Time: 10:45am - 11:30am
Location: Portland 251

Microcontrollers are cheap and widely available. And if you peek under the hood of some of them, you'll see GNU C and other open source tools powering them. The Make Controller is powered by GCC, FreeRTOS, and lwIP. The Arduino and Wiring microcontroller boards are not only open source--you can build them yourself quite easily--but their programming environment is also based on a combination of Processing and GNU C.

Attendees will get an overview of these three microcontroller boards, learn where to get them, and find out how to get started making things with them.
