"What is open source?"

On the surface, it may appear that open source is simply a matter of software licensing, or if you've faced an open source contender in the market, perhaps a business model. But most contributors who have participated in open source projects would recognize a range of attributes that are close enough to fundamental that they should be part and parcel of what it means to be open source.

Here we present Waugh Partners research into the "Foundations of Open" model, which seeks to define and measure sustainability and success in the open source community and market.
