Josh Berkus proposed the following to the OS DBMS Consortium list at the start of July:

"""... we'd like to form a "benchmark working group" of people from OSDBs who are interested in developing benchmarks, as well as working with some of the companies & organizations involved. The idea would be to produce a suite of benchmark tools, and an organization -- or to partner with an organization -- who can administrate and arbitrate the publication & peer review process.

One possibility is following the "DIY Benchmark" approach and producing multiple components which can be combined to form various kinds of workloads. This would also help potential customers test for their own workloads better than existing commercial benchmarks do."""

OSCON would be a great place to get this started.
