Project Indiana: The Road to Solaris Next

Ian Murdock, Chief OS Platform Strategist, Sun Microsystems

Track: Products and Services
Date: Wednesday, July 25
Time: 11:35am - 12:20pm
Location: E141

Sun Chief OS Platform Strategist Ian Murdock will describe Project Indiana, a project within the OpenSolaris community to create a binary "distribution" of OpenSolaris, and its impact on the future of the Solaris operating system. Project Indiana aims to make Solaris more familiar to a new generation of users raised on Linux distributions. The goal of Project Indiana is to attract new users to the OpenSolaris community, grow developer mindshare around Solaris, and create new business opportunities for Sun and its partners. Ian will describe the similarities between Linux and Solaris as they exist today, explain how Project Indiana aims to close the familiarity gap even further, and detail how the innovations of Solaris will help Project Indiana to create a "best of both worlds" OpenSolaris environment.
