Software point solutions have replaced many ASIC specific network applications. Virtualization has made software solutions even more attractive as it has now become nearly limitless what you can do with a single off-the-shelf server. Still, there are tradeoffs to be made when designing a virtual network and tricks to maintain high performance between competing applications. In this interactive session, Dirk Morris will layout a number of the challenges faced in developing the Untangle Gateway Platform over the past four years and the techniques developed to overcome them. Participants are encouraged to come prepared to discuss technical challenges they are currently facing and ideas on new approaches.
