The combination of JavaScript and DHTML has evolved to provide the same level of user experience as Flash while retaining adherence to webstandards and graceful degradation. Since Rails has included the Scriptaculous library in its distribution package, it's vital that designers and programmers familiarize themselves with the extensibility and potential of this versatile animation/effect system. Merwin will give examples of how a developer can integrate resuable, DRY extensions of the library in a Rails project, plus the JavaScript guts themselves. After the talk, developers and designers will be able to write their own custom animations and effects.
