One of the most important features of Rails is ActiveRecord. As an API and a design pattern, ActiveRecord makes database integration and object-relational mapping simple. Service Data Objects (SDO), currently undergoing standardization at OASIS, provides a consistent model for data sources, be they relational databases, web services, XML files, or anything else with a data access layer. In this session, we’ll look at implementing ActiveRecord using an SDO data source underneath. This implementation lets you build Rails applications on top of new data models without any changes to Rails itself.
