In the traditional supply chain for books, industry-wide standards have played a central, though low-profile, role in making our businesses more efficient. As technology begins to make a profound impact on the way content is created, distributed, used and sold, a new generation of standards is required. Some are already under development.

This session will describe the contribution standards make to the efficiency of our industry and the success of our businesses. It will review the work that is already underway, both in the U.S. and internationally, and set out the critical areas where further work is urgently required. It will call for collaboration in making a new supply chain based on these standards.
