Session

Tools of Change for the Self-publishing Community

Bruce Watermann, Vice President, Print Operations, Blurb

Track: Products & Services
Date: Tuesday, June 19
Time: 11:50am - 12:35pm
Location: Fairfield Room

As print technology has evolved, individuals can now afford to print near offset quality self-published projects in quantities as small as one. Empowered by the latest economical and flexible printing methods, individuals are now able to bypass traditional publishing methods and sell directly to a broad audience. The tools of change for this community expand beyond printing to include book distribution, design and layout tools, and marketing support. The agents of change are companies that partner with authors from the earliest stage of a project through the long-term phases, completely supporting the long-tail effect.

This session will discuss the life cycle of self-published projects, how to research and determine the viability of the product, when traditional publishing methods are a better option, and how to sustain sales even after books have left bookstore shelves.
