Group President, HarperCollins Publishers

Brian Murray is Group President for HarperCollins Publishers. In this role Murray has direct responsibility for HarperCollins General Books Group in the US which includes the HarperCollins, Morrow and Collins publishing divisions. Internationally, Murray has responsibility for HarperCollins Canada, Australia, and New Zealand as well as HarperCollins new initiatives in China. He also serves on the board of HarperCollins India and NewsStand, the wining vendor of HarperCollins Digital Warehouse RFP. Murray is also leading HarperCollins’ digital efforts which include the development of HarperCollins digital warehouse, direct to consumer marketing initiatives and the digitization HarperCollins’ backlist.

Murray joined HarperCollins in 1997 as Director of Finance and Strategy for the General Books Group. Murray played a significant role in the restructuring of the General Books Group and the acquisition and integration of Morrow and Avon in 1999. After rising to Senior Vice President and Managing Director of the General Books Group, he was named Chief Executive Officer of HarperCollins Australia/New Zealand in 2001. During his time in Sydney, the market share, financial performance and local publishing of HarperCollins Australia/New Zealand reached new heights and it continues to contribute to HarperCollins Worldwide.

In 2004, He returned to HarperCollins in the U.S. as Group President.

Prior to joining HarperCollins, Murray was a consultant in the Media Practice at Booz Allen & Hamilton, one of the country’s leading consulting firms.
