The key to making Desktop Linux a success is to make the Operating System one chooses irrelevant. Many pieces of software are pushing us in this direction--OpenOffice, Firefox, Wine, Flash Player, and Java are among some of the most prominent. The Linux community has come a long way in the past few years but sadly there are still many ties holding people to a specific OS.
This session will provide insight into the current state of the Irrelevant Operating System as well as what is needed to propel us faster towards the making OS choice irrelevant. Part of the session will be a case study for how small startups are embracing this vision, like the Open Source Meldware Communications Suite, that has invested in a cross-platform email system.
