Spiders, robots, screen-scraping, and plaintext searches are the order of the day in a desperate attempt to draw sometimes arbitrary distinctions between needles and hay. Does P2P threaten to throw straw and needles to the wind or, rather, could distributed metadata provide a viable alternative to Web index store-houses?
