Cofounder & Product Chief, Swivel
For the last year and a half in his role as Product Chief, Dmitry has been building Swivel, the coolest web site for data out there. He talks to users, listens to all the zany ideas from the awesome Swivel team, and channels it all into a stream of product features. He also takes care of the site's interaction and visual design. When left unsupervised he compulsively uploads data and makes graphs at Swivel.
Before jumping headlong into Swivel, Dmitry was a product manager at BEA Systems, a large enterprise software company, where he met cofounder Brian Mulloy. His last adventure there was starting QuickSilver, a product that led BEA's introduction of the AquaLogic product family. His fingerprints are also on WebLogic Portal and WebLogic Integration.
For a brief period of time before BEA, he wore a suit working as a programmer at an investment firm on Wall Street. Falafel from street vendors there can't be beat.
He grew up in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. He studied plasma physics and got his Physics BS from SUNY Stony Brook after moving to the United States in 1994. He got his MS in Engineering from San Jose State University and taught there afterwards for two semesters.
He lives in San Francisco. The few hours a week left over after Swivel he spends with his wife and kids. He loves playing tennis, skiing, and backpacking, and trying to squeeze a book into his short commute on the San Francisco muni.
