Workshop

Personal Social Media Goes Mobile: Freeing Web 2.0 (Sponsored by Nokia)

Wendy March, Senior Researcher, People and Practices Research, Intel Corporation
Doug Solomon, Chief Technology Strategist, IDEO

Date: Wednesday, October 17
Time: 11:30am - 12:45pm
Location: Presidio

Nokia is expanding beyond device manufacturing and is bringing easy-to-use Web 2.0 services to everyone globally who carries a mobile handset. Join us for an open discussion about what can happen when Web 2.0 is in everyone’s hand.

Modern handsets are as powerful as laptop computers from the early 2000s, but are much more well connected and are at the same time intensely personal. They're also multimedia powerhouses, for both creation and consumption. The ascendence of these extremely powerful converged devices coincides with two major changes: the shift to Web 2.0 properties and the rise of online social networking. As with any "hot" area, there will undoubtedly be projections that are totally wrong and there will be many failures as we go forward. What is undeniable, however, is that the world is changing profoundly and connected mobile devices are one of the pillars of that change. We will explore more than just mobile technology. We will instead focus on why and how these shifts will affect each of us in our daily lives -- from executives in NY to villagers in Africa. Join us in an open, conversational setting to explore the possibilities unfolding for everyone over the next decade.
