James Hamilton
Architect, Microsoft Windows Live
James is an Architect on the Microsoft Windows Live Core engineering team, responsible for driving the high-scale services platform. Previously, James was General Manager of the Microsoft Exchange Hosted Services team, which offers hosted email anti-virus, anti-spam, encryption, and archiving solutions. Past roles at Microsoft include SQL Server Architect, and he has lead many of the SQL Server core engine development teams. He joined Microsoft in 1997 after 11 years at IBM, where he was Lead Architect for IBM DB2 UDB. Earlier, he led the development of IBMs first C++ compiler. In a previous career, James was an auto mechanic, and serviced Italian cars including Maseratti, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Alfa Romeo. He holds a Masters of Computer Science from the University of Waterloo and an undergraduate degree at the University of Victoria.- Session: Commodity Data Center Design
