Zipcar, a short-term "on-demand" car-sharing company for urban dwellers, has enjoyed exponential growth since it started in 2000. This growth would not be possible without the use of several location-aware services. As these technologies grow and improve and their cost falls, their adoption by the general public will help Zipcar continue to improve its own service. An overview of the car-sharing concept will be presented, along with a discussion of early mistakes, scalability, and design considerations for incorporating location-aware services into your own business process.
