Date: Tuesday, June 13
Time: 1:30pm - 1:45pm
Location: Imperial Ballroom

Case-study approach to the usage of various GRASS functions to prepare specialized maps and reports relevant to planning a wilderness hike. Examples will be used to show how several aspects of terrain analysis can be used to transform information, stored in freely available DEM datasets, into new sources of geographic data. Trail digitization, cost surfaces, and network analysis will be used to simulate route selection in difficult terrain. A simple background on geodetic principles will be presented to highlight the process of bringing together different sources of geographic data.
