NASA World Wind is an open source 3D geospatial visualization platform. For
over a year World Wind has enjoyed the attention of up to (and over) 80,000
downloads a day (of a 50+ MB program, thank you SourceForge!). Hundreds of
plugins are available that extend this application every which way but
loose. Although most are free and open source, this has not prevented
entrepreneurs from providing value added proprietary products as well. NASA
World Wind delivers access to terabytes of NASA data. The user is able to
select from hundreds of planetary datasets for a variety of criteria
including precipitation, temperature, ozone, etc. These can be date selected
for full animations of daily data extending back several years. Experience
the latest weather for the past month up to the last hour. Visit other
planets or penetrate even deeper space to magnify twinkles of light into
gorgeous spiral galaxies. NASA World Wind allows you to provide access to
your data free or proprietarily. It's open source, have it your way.
