Mapping on the Web is evolving beyond basic maps and directions to enabling the development, publishing, and sharing of powerful Geographic Information System (GIS) applications and services that transform the way people do business. GIS services and data are being combined in ways that allow us to see patterns, trends, and relationships that help solve complex business problems, such as analyzing trade areas or revealing untapped markets. Also, via new and evolving GIS web technologies and tools, end users no longer have to be GIS experts to benefit from the power of these types of applications and services.
